Chillies
Chillies are an excellent source of beta-carotene and vitamin C. They help to relieve nasal congestion. They help prevent blood clots that can lead to a heart attack or stroke.
Chillies, especially the green varieties, generally have a higher nutritional content than the red ones. They are very good sources of antioxidants, especially beta-carotene and vitamin C. Chillies also contain bioflavonoids, plant pigments, that help prevent cancer. One raw, red hot pepper(45 g) contains about 65 mg of vitamins C, nearly 100% of RDA. Capsaicin-the ingredient that makes chillies hot-acts as an anticoagulant, helping to prevent blood clots that can lead to a heart attack or stroke. Incorporated into topical creams, capsaicinoids alleviate the pain of arthritis and shingles. They may also reduce the mouth pain associated with chemotherapy. Contrary to popular belief, there is no evidence that Chillies cause ulcers or digestive problems.
