Ageing is not just a state of mind, and no one gets out of here alive. But we want to go with a little dignity, so we keep fighting back. But by trying to outrun, out cycle and out swim the grim reaper, many of us may be wearing ourselves out too early. When we’re a young, we overdo, leaving our joints and ligaments damaged long before the first gray hairs appear. As adults, we choose the wrong sports or we are doing the right thing, but too much and too hard.
Do too little and your chances of dying go up. Do too much and you’re going to get injured. There is a lot of evidence that with regular exercise, we can maintain aerobic capacity and muscle strength. But there is no ignoring accumulated wear and tear. We must get our heart kicker going six times a week, at various levels of intensity, for anywhere from 21 to 30 minutes. A strong heart makes the simple actions of everyday living easier. Life is good health makes it better. We can do whatever we want-swim, run, play tennis-as long as the heart rate gets into our target zone. Just getting out for a walk can be all we need. For older people gardening, raking the leaves or house work will help make cardio gains. In addition to Cardio regimen, vow to park the car more often and hop on the bike.
